Index.php codekit12/23/2023 ![]() An IDE for code edits (Coda, TextMate, Espresso, etc). Here's what you will need in order to work directly on your live server/website with CodeKit: Go check out the LESS website now for more information and code examples. The logic is pretty simple and easy to get to grips with. ![]() LESS allows you to use Javascript-style variables and functions within your CSS, and to construct CSS in a way that's far more structured and manageable in the future. ![]() I'm not fluent with LESS yet, I hadn't dived-in with everyone else partly because I've been busy of late, and partly because I was hesitant due to it's apparent reliance on Javascript to work correctly. LESS is described as "the dynamic stylesheet language". I would suggest you check out the website and Bryan's excellent videos to get a better grasp of what it can do for your workflow. It basically allows you to develop your sites using LESS (or one of the others) without the need to load the LESS dependency (a small Javascript file which normally does the compiling for you when you load the site). It's been around for a few months – still in Beta stage, but from what I can see, pretty much ready to go. It compiles LESS, SASS, Stylus and other code files as you work – it provides error checking and minification for CSS and Javascript amongst others. At it's most basic level, it runs "behind the scenes" of your usual IDE (I use the excellent Coda). But what if I wanted to use the power of CodeKit & LESS on my live site? It's surprisingly easy to set-up, as long as you have the right tools…ĬodeKit is a web development tool for Mac, written by Bryan Jones ( follow him on Twitter here). I read all I was able to find as well as watched the videos on codekit, but this bit here is still a bit unknown to me and any help would be really appreciated. On every project, I eventually find myself having to work directly on assets on a live server. Is it possible? am I missing something here? So far, I always switched my current project to use the localhost host (changing the document root in MAMP pro) and then telling codekit to use the localhost ip as external server, but now it's a bit more complex, as I have way more projects and I was hoping not to change back and forth the document root to use codekit built in refreshing feature. I don't think the issue is in the way I load the resource in WordPress (i use enqueue sources properly, and the website without using codekit refresh function works, load and displays as meant to). When I click on the preview (or server, it doesn't really make any difference for me) codekit navigates to my mac IP and the website is either not loading or loading without any external resource. In codekit I then setup the browser refreshing options to be the following:Įxternal Server Address: Then when I click on the green dot (server) to preview my website, I'm expecting codekit to navigate to and to properly display my website. Now, if I navigate to my WordPress website loads and I am able to see everything. In codekit, when I enable the browser refresh, the bottom options asks me to write down the address I would visit to see my website. Let's say I have this list of hosts with (fake) document root: localhost -> documents/site1/distĪnd let's assume that test is a wordpress site having the site url set to I have MAMP pro installed, with some hosts. I really like this app, but there's something I never really understood and I decided to post it here (hoping to finally understand how this works and how to make it works like I want). I've been using codekit for ages now, and now I've been using the version 3 since it came out.
